Our catalogue for Autumn/Christmas 2011 .

Here is a selection of our newest stock, much of which is as yet not available elsewhere on the internet, but which I will be slowly adding over time to other places & sites. If you wish to purchase anything from this list please either e-mail us on peakirkbooks@btinternet.com or telephone us on 01328 829944 to reserve.  We will check availability and reply with confirmation and P&P price. I may add new items to this list, especially those of Christmas interest, over the next couple of months, so it will be worth keeping an eye open for interesting changes! Please don't take the subject headings as gospel.  It is ndifficult to put authors into defined subject headings, as they to write books that cross into different boundaries, and authors some people see as one category, another classify differently eg Monica Edwards - some regard as a Horse & Pony author, whilst others categorise her as children's adventure story writer - and she of course wrote career stories! If in doubt read all categories!

Mary Gervaise – Pseudonym for Joan Mary Wayne Brown, was a classics graduate of Newnham, who had taught at Surbiton High School before her marriage. She was brought up in Sutton, and then Broadstairs Boarding School, and then Eversfield Boarding School. At 18 the whole family moved to Exeter, and on developing anaemia the Doctor forbade Joan to work for 2 years, so she turned to writing. Her family moved again and settled near Guildfordwhere she lived until 1998. Joan gained experience of horses in her life when a nursing friend kept a stables nearby, so when after the war her publishers felt that her originally straight school stories didn’t have sufficient appeal, she chose to combine ponies into her school based story books. Her first school story was published in 1928, and her last in 1963. In between she wrote stand alone books, , paits, a trilogy, several medium series and 1 long series.
